Hi Dave,

Emily and I wanted to pass this note on to you. We appreciate everything William Blake Homes has done for us and wanted to pass you the feedback from our experience with your team.

After having moved in and sort of settled, Emily and I are thrilled to be in a William Blake home.

This was the first house we looked at and Emily said “well, this is the one” as soon s we walked in. After looking at close to 20 other projects like yours, this one really set its self apart. The design and detail was unlike anything we saw available and it really feels like a home to us.

Aside from the impressive craftsmanship, we have appreciated the support we’ve received from Jaime and yourself. Your team has over delivered on our expectations and we couldn’t be happier.

After months of debating between renovating our current home or buying new, we decided to renovate as it would provide us exactly what we wanted.  Equipped with an outstanding detailed design package that was developed by Lowell Scott our incredible Interior designer from Vincent Flasch Interior Design; we met with multiple Construction and Renovating contractors and decided to hire William Blake Homes.  Our decision was based on proven and demonstrated experience; we toured one of William Blake homes that was under construction and nearly completed, we were impressed with the quality of the work, attention to details and craftsmanship.

The scope of our project was not insignificant; gutted most of the main floor and removing staircases, hardwood floor, walls, passage/closets doors, popcorn ceilings and windows/doors castings on both floors.  The result of our renovation exceeded our expectations, we are loving our new home; we are consistently receiving praise on our design and quality of our renovation.  We attribute this success to Matthew our project manager, Matthew’s attention to detail and pro-activity in identifying areas of potential concerns and helping in developing alternatives solutions.  David Tidmarsh was also key into the success of our project; David said that he wouldn’t be happy until we were and he truly meant it.

To conclude, engaging and combining the right teams like our interior designer Lowell Scott and Williams Blake Homes truly enabled us to actualize our dream home!!

Thank you for your dedication to our project and making us very proud owners of our home.

“William Blake Homes came highly recommended from a number of trusted friends.  They did a large renovation in my home. Dave is approachable, attentive and ensures that his company provides quality work. William Blake strive to satisfy their clients. I would not hesitant to recommend William Blake to family or friends. I plan to have further work done by them in the future”

It is with pleasure that we are writing to recommend William Blake Homes as a custom homebuilder. My wife and I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Dave Tidmarsh during the purchase of our new home in September of 2016.  Without reservation we would highly recommend Dave and William Blake Homes to anyone looking to build or remodel their home.

While the construction of our home was substantially complete by the time we made our purchase, throughout the remaining construction process, Dave and his site manager Phil Dickau were consummate professionals.  They were always available for questions and listened to any concerns we had about the process to complete the project.  Discussions regarding upgrades or changes to the initial plan were always up front and with transparency in pricing.

The house was immaculate upon taking possession (which was right on time!) and subsequent to our possession they have addressed any concerns or touch-ups quickly and efficiently.

Ryan and Laiha Coupland

We initially met with Dave at one of his beautiful houses that was for sale in Marda Loop in June 2016. , We were not certain if we wanted to move and downsize from our present home or renovate it. After discussing this with Dave, we were quite impressed with the professionalism and transparency of his firm. We decided to renovate. Changing kitchen & mudroom floors, back splash, and all banisters in a big house is not an easy feat, especially with 3 dogs in the house. Dave, Matt and their team accommodated our schedule. They completed the project in less than 10 weeks. We love the renos and are very happy with having chosen William Blake Homes to do the renovations.

RE: Referral for William Blake Homes

On behalf of my wife Nancy and daughter MacKenzie, we are pleased to provide a positive referral for William Blake Homes. We approached Dave in late 2014 with an ‘idea’ to build a new garage with a secondary suite above it while at the same time doing some extensive renovations to the house we live in. We had some great ideas and were looking for a builder who was not afraid to look outside the box. With many years of experience building homes in the inner city Dave was forging his own ideas for a new company that welcomed unique opportunities where he could add value.

Throughout the process Dave’s commitment and dedication were unwavering. He was very patient with us when we needed time to think things over and always responsive when we had questions or concerns. Dave treated our money like it was his own.

We could not be happier with the final results and look forward to opportunities to work with him and his team in the future.

To Whom it May Concern:

My Wife and I bought a home from Dave Tidmarsh and his company at William Blake homes in August 2015. We were extremely satisfied with the process. We found Dave and his team very attentive and approachable. All issues were attended to in a timely manner. We appreciated the quality, care and attention to detail in the finished product. High quality materials and construction were used throughout the project. Our home is very well constructed and we have enjoyed living in it. We would recommend Dave and his team at William Blake Homes to any discerning home buyer

I contacted Dave and William Blake homes after taking possession of my previously owned home and wanted to make some changes. Dave came in for a consultation and we defined the initial scope, estimated budget and schedule. In a follow-up meeting, we revisited the scope of work; changing the back entry closet to an open mud room concept, create a main floor bar and wine storage, replacing a dishwasher, extending the hardwood from the main floor on the stairwell to the 2nd floor, removing carpet for a more suitable or durable floor in the downstair bedroom (which would become the home gym). We agreed to the budget, with contingency for change orders and the baseline schedule.

The flooring was first as the material timelines were the shortest. These deliverables were completed in <10 days (including the removal of existing, selection of new, shipment and installation of the new flooring). Change Orders were coming into play for the main floor bar as we added a second row for bottle storage and design the floating shelves. The rear entry closet was removed and the design for the open mud room concept approved. The main floor bar was progressing with the quartz counter top, bar fridge selected and finalized floating shelves (now with LED lighting). The finished product has helped anchor the main floor and provided or extended the entertainment opportunities as opposed a bar in the basement. It came in slightly over budget and schedule due to the agreed changes. The closet was a journey for both parties. As the design was being made ‘real’ through construction, I re-evaluated my criteria and aesthetics. After consultations with Dave and team, we agreed to keep the now larger square area of the closet, but put doors back into place with some shelving and dividers to increase the usefulness as well as storage. Even with the changes, this came in under budget, although schedule did creep with the design changes. Overall, the budget and schedule were monitored throughout the lifecycle and I was kept apprised through progress reports. This is an expectation of mine that the William Blake team understood, as I manage commercial projects as part of what I do for a living. We actually came in under budget as we stopped the closet development at the appropriate point, and the design options reviewed presented both alternatives to the look and included costs. It was easy to make the decision. I was also grateful for our working relationship beyond the progress reports, as I was unable me at home during office hours. The team accommodated this by supervising the work that was occurring in my home, to ensure the safety of the crews and security of my contents. As well, they would arrange meetings for late in the afternoon or early evening, to allow for my schedule. In summary, the project was a success. I am pleased with the fit and finish of the work, and the fact we come in under budget, considering all the design changes. I would recommend the team if you are considering a major home renovation project as a true partner in the outcomes. Best, Brent E. Douziech"

I am writing this note to discuss the work of William Blake Homes and Dave Tidmarsh and his team. We embarked on a very large project to renovate a newer home and the project could not have gone better. The work was meticulous and Dave was very communicative every step of the way. The entire project came in on time and on budget, with some minor follow up required. Dave and his team were very diligent on the follow ups and made sure all the work was completed to their high standards. I would recommend William Blake Homes, and especially Dave and team for my family and friends for any renovation/construction project going forward.

Re: William Blake Homes
We recently hired William Blake Homes to complete a renovation of our kitchen and master bedroom ensuite. We are very pleased with the finished product. The work is high quality and we couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out.
Dave Tidmarsh and his team were friendly and professional and a pleasure to deal with. They were responsive to our requests and accommodating of changes throughout the project.
We are happy with our decision to use William Blake Homes for this renovation project.

“William Blake was a recommendation to us from a trusted friend, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the final results.

Dave was extremely professional from day one and his knowledge of construction and what was possible with our layout made us feel reassured. Our renovation included a redesign of the kitchen, living and dining areas, including relocation of a stairwell and a new engineered beam.

The team requested clarity on design and plans along the way, however once this were given, Rob managed the execution of these items without a hitch. When issues arose, e.g. engineered beam and limited roof pitch, the team came up with a solution which kept timing on target.

Our vision of the renovation executed by William Blake’s team was accomplished and to date we are very pleased with the results”

We hired William Blake to build a garage on a quirky inner-city lot. Despite the tight quarters and some strange requests – we were right up against the property lines and an existing deck, then we wanted a finished storage attic plus a dormer window – Dave and Rob and their crews got the job done without any grief, and produced a garage that looks more like guest house. It’s almost too nice to park in.

Dear Mr. Tidmarsh:

We wish to extend our sincere thanks to you for the excellent renovation that your company completed at our home.

At our meeting with you in late 2014 and finally in January, we agreed on the scope of the project, the cost estimates and the timing. We note that from that point to the projected start date of early March, the project started as promised.

We developed a very close working relationship with the project manager who was assigned to our job and he was extremely helpful in the preparations for vacating the work area and in coordinating the trades. As might be expected during this busy period in Calgary, outside suppliers sometimes were swamped and not able to deliver some items on time. When that happened, the manager rescheduled the trades so that there was absolutely minimum down-time. I should note as well that the trades were experts in their fields (carpentry, flooring, tiling, painting, electricians, etc.). They always left the work site clean and tidy for the day.

We were most impressed that the overall job scope and schedule included the initial arrangements for furniture storage (and retrieval later), complete cleaning of fixtures, mirrors and windows, walls, kitchen cabinets and drawers and the new carpeting. The final item included a commercial cleaning of the furnace duct work.

We wish to express our thanks for a job well done, on time and on budget.

It is with pleasure we write this reference for Dave Tidmarsh and the team at William Blake Homes.

Our home was affected by the 2013 Calgary flood and needed extensive repairs. Dave and his team were quick to respond with a strategic plan of action for the restoration and renovation of our home.

The scope of work, schedule, and budget were clearly defined prior to project initiation.  Regular meetings throughout the project execution ensured transparency in a dynamic contracting and evolving Provincial flood mitigation regulatory environment.

Dave and Rob Marr, our project manager, upon completion of our renovation, delivered our home to us in better condition than the original build, on time and on budget.

The finished product exceeded our expectations, delivering a home incorporating many additional design features put forward by Dave and his team.

We would recommend Dave and the team at William Blake Homes, without reservation, for luxury custom built homes or renovations.

Dave and his team at William Blake Homes were a pleasure to deal with.  He was prompt, professional, and extremely dependable.  I had a moderate size job on my new house to renovate/complete, and the finished product was exactly as quoted; and on time!  I was provided frequent updates by Dave and the crew were just as courteous as they were skilled.  I am very happy with the quality of the finished product.  I would call Dave again in a heartbeat and plan to use him again for any future projects.  I highly recommend him for any work that you may need done.

I have nothing but great things to say about David Tidmarsh and his contracting / renovation business.

My wife and I have had two fairly major renovations done by him in the past few years and have been very impressed with his service and professionalism on both occasions.

In one case we had his team remove a load-bearing wall and replace it with a large beam in order to open up our dining and kitchen area. This was a significant job which required the services of engineers, designers as well as contractors specialized in all aspects of home renovation.  David was excellent in ensuring the various services were done on time and as scheduled. He oversaw all aspects of the operation and was always available if we had questions or concerns about the process.

More recently our hundred year house developed some structural problems which were alarming to us and required immediate attention. Impressively, David was available and  at our home almost as soon as we called him. He very quickly was able to get a repair plan and crew in place and had, what we had dreaded was going to be a major problem, repaired in short order.

I have nothing but praise for his services and am happy to recommend him highly.

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of referral for David Tidmarsh and William

Blake Homes.

We were very fortunate to have Dave as our project manager when building our custom

home 6 years ago. He was with us every step of the way. From the architectural

design, through the development process, budgeting, construction and most importantly

post possession. He still checks in with us periodically to make sure everything is going

Dave is certainly one of the top custom home builders in Calgary with such a vast range

of projects & experiences in his repertoire. There wasn’t an issue that came up that

Dave did not have a solution for and approach with pure professionalism and ease.

Should we ever build another custom home in Calgary, or choose to renovate any

property the only builder we would consider is David Tidmarsh and William Blake

Homes. Outstanding individual, outstanding builder!

Jamie was our Project Manager for our custom home over the fifteen months of the build in 2012-13.  We couldn’t be happier with how the build turned out!  Jamie was very easy to work with and responded to questions and concerns quickly and effectively.  We had very few problems with our build, and I credit Jamie with a having a lot to do with how smooth things went.  On the very few things we had concerns about, Jamie worked with the subcontractors to resolve the problems quickly, and always to our satisfaction.  Any information we needed was always gathered for us quickly and Jamie was always easy to contact throughout the process.

Our custom build is our ‘forever home’, but if I was ever building again I would definitely want to have Jamie involved.  I would recommend him without reservation.

I have known Dave Tidmarsh for more than 12 years, during this time Dave and I have worked together in varying capacities in the residential home construction industry. I would recommend Dave Tidmarsh and William Blake homes for the following reasons: Firstly, Dave has always demonstrated a relentless work ethic, constantly doing whatever it takes to ensure client’s expectation were met. Second, Dave has a masterful understanding of residential home construction, Dave has achieved this through building an array of incredibly diverse custom homes for very specific clients and completing his Master Home Builder certification. Third, Dave has a true passion for building homes and this is clearly evident in his commitment and dedication to excellence.

Based on our history and the preceding qualities I elected to build a home with Dave in Hillhurst that was completed in 2015. Our home was completed under budget and with a very limited deficiency list. I would recommend Dave Tidmarsh and William Blake Homes to anyone interested in building a custom home or renovating.

We had the pleasure of having Dave and Jamie renovating the exterior of our infill in Parkhill. Our house was modeled after the painted ladies of San Francisco, which was accomplished using MDF accents. After 15 years the exterior was in pretty rough shape.

Dave and Jamie not only brought the exterior back to life but also provided some expert advice on what not to do again and excellent guidance on modifications that greatly improved the look and durability of the exterior.

I have no hesitation in recommending these gentlemen for a building project as they will bring a professional attitude and get the job done on time and on budget.

I would highly recommend Dave Tidmarsh to anyone thinking of building or renovating their home.

When building our home 4 years ago, Dave sat down with us at every way of the planning and building process, clarifying exactly what our wishes were and how he could deliver the best product.  He provided accurate cost estimates and was able, though his contracts in the building industry, acquire very competitive rates in all aspects of our build.

I think the most important aspect for us was that we trusted Dave.  We knew his ultimate goal was our satisfaction and he worked very hard to successfully build our dream home.  If we ever build again, I will be calling Dave for his help and expertise.

As an aside, I have referred several of my close friends to Dave for their home renovations and they all have been exceedingly happy with the outcome.

Please give me a call if you would like to discuss any questions you might have regarding building or renovating with Dave.

I just wanted to take the time to thank you and your team for the great job that you did renovating our home.

Our experience with The Remodelers left our home in a state of complete disarray. The inside of our home was completely gutted, a large steel beam was not properly installed or engineered, materials were paid for but never ordered, and numerous promises were made but never kept.

Having grown up in the home and purchased it from my parents, we were devastated. In the aftermath, we were fortunate to have you take on our job. You and your team were professional, honest and provided such a different experience to what we had endured before.

The communication between you and your team to us was exceptional. In addition to our regular weekly meetings, you and your team were available to us at any time, and were able to help us out with any questions that we had. Issues that arose through construction such as our pipes bursting over the winter were dealt with quickly, and we were informed of those issues immediately.

Scheduling issues and concerns such as trade availability and timing of trades (both positive and negative) were also communicated immediately. Our renovation was completed almost a month sooner than the original anticipated completion date, and the cost of the renovation was less than what you had originally anticipated. Both were welcome news given what had happened already.

Most importantly though, the quality of your work was beyond what we imagined when we first undertook the renovation. Having lived in the home for the majority of my life, you were able to help us transform our outdated family home, into an amazing, modern living space. My parents could believe it when they first saw it. They were shocked and amazed.

I look forward to my kids growing up with many of the same childhood memories that I did, and I will be forever grateful to you and your team for helping that happen.

All the best Dave. Thanks again.

I have known Dave for 4 years as Construction Manager at City Core Developments, as well as the past year as owner or William Blake Homes.
I can confirm that he is a man of great integrity, is extremely dedicated to his job, and ensuring that is trades are treated respectfully and looked after in all aspects of the job.
Furthermore, I have known him to go above and beyond the standard business procedure to ensure a smooth and expedient turnover of jobs. Any questions about scope of work, or unforeseen site discrepancies have been dealt with immediately without any second guessing.
For your information, I have been in construction for the past 19 years in varying positions (trade partner, supervisor, construction manager, and business owner) and have yet to find an employer that as been better to deal with and work for.

Please accept our thanks for the work that you and Rob Marr did while working on our home renovation over the past 15+ months. We are just now approaching the end of the one-year post-completion period, and the final few minor follow-up requirements will be completed within a few weeks.

Having completed a renovation of some sort in each of the five homes that we have owned over the past almost 50 years, we were well aware of the many unknown circumstances that almost certainly will arise during a renovation project. As you know, such circumstances require adjustments in construction personnel and timing, and a degree of skill by the Project Manager to adjust as needed, and to work with the home owners to smooth over the period of unexpected transition.

The progress of our home renovation went smoothly over a 4-month period, and your project Manager Rob Marr was directly responsible for that. He adjusted to the periodic unexpected circumstances as they occurred, kept the project moving through them, and adjusted timing of different personnel accordingly. During the months of post-construction, he responding promptly and with good humour to all the little glitches that we discovered, and dealt with them in a manner that he promised he would.

Our compliments to you for the work of your sub-contractors, and in particular, for the work
that Rob did to allow the successful completion of our renovation.

With our thanks and best wishes.

I am writing to provide a recommendation for Dave Tidmarsh. I have had the pleasure of working with Dave for the past 7 years as the Interior Designer on many residential renovation projects for which he was the general contractor.

Dave extensive knowledge and experience in the building and renovation industry is apparent right from the start and has been a strong asset in every project we’ve worked on. This, paired with his always professional and courteous demeanor is a combination that is invaluable in a Contractor.

During the time that I have worked with David, I have been consistently impressed with not only his superior quality of workmanship but his adherence to budget and timelines, He possesses great communication skills and ensures a high level of care and attention to his client’s needs.

It is for these reasons that I continue to recommend Dave Tidmarsh without hesitation for any new build or renovation project.

Having worked with Dave Tidmarsh over the past 6 years, I have nothing but positive things to express. Dave and his team come with an extensive knowledge of construction on both the new build and renovation sides of the home building industry, and they are always eager to share their knowledge when questions arise. Whenever I encounter a construction restraint on site, I can always count on Dave and his team to come the table with multiple solutions to the problem. It’s great when you can rely on a builder to implement your designs with a keen eye for detail while also offering constructive suggestions to push your designs to the next level, and Dave does just that.

Working with Dave and his team is a true collaborative effort between the client, designer and trades. Dave keeps all parties in the loop on all aspects of the build, insuring that everyone shares the same vision for the project. The end result is a beautiful home that not only the client can be proud of, but the entire team that was involved in the build as well.

With all of the above in mind, I would have no hesitation in recommending Dave as a builder for future clients.
